VERIFY: Beware of FedEx text messaging scam

"We do not send unsolicited texts of emails requesting money, package or personal information," FedEx warns on Twitter.

Scammers are getting smarter, and some are turning their tricks to text messages.

Lots of people screenshot a strange text message they received purporting to be from FedEx. 

It reads: "Hello, your FedEx package with tracking code GB-6412-GH83 is waiting for you to set delivery preferences." It provides a link to click for more information.

People took to Twitter to find out what's going on.

It has a lot of people confused, so we Verified: is this a real message from FedEx?

On Twitter, FedEx addressed the confusion.

"Have you received a suspicious text or e-mail that appears to be from us?" FedEx wrote. "Suspicious messages should be deleted without being opened and reported to abuse@fedex.com"

Complaints about unwanted text messages have consistently increased.

The Federal Trade Commission received more than 107,000 reports of unwanted text messages in 2019. That's up 15 percent over 2018 and 50 percent over the year before, according to their Consumer Sentinel Network report.
