VERIFY: Don't respond | No, YouTube isn't emailing you about copyright infringement

WASHINGTON — QUESTION:

Is YouTube warning people that they're videos contain spam and copyrighted material?

PROCESS:

One-third of internet users -- about one billion people -- are plugged into YouTube. All of those accounts make YouTube a prime target for scammers trying to steal personal information.

Phishing scams are cheap, and to the unsuspecting victim, easy to pull off. 

The latest round of scams seem to be targeting YouTube users. Many on Twitter are warning YouTube users about a suspicious email.

The emails going around are, in fact, phishing mailers. The scam will direct users to fill out a questionnaire including their account name and password.

But that's not something the video social media platform will ever ask for.

"YouTube will never ask you for your password, email address, or other account information," YouTube said online. "Don't be fooled if someone contacts you pretending to be from YouTube!"

So we can Verify, nope, this crop of emails is not from YouTube.
