WASHINGTON -- A rare 'high risk' potential of severe weather was issued Monday by the Storm Prediction Center in northwest Texas and central/western Oklahoma. There will be a significant severe weather outbreak, including tornadoes that could be violent and long-track, large hail, and damaging winds.
A 'Particularly Dangerous Situation' tornado (PDS) watch is in effect until 10 PM CDT.
In the High Risk area is the Oklahoma City metropolis, including the town of Moore, Oklahoma. Exactly 6 years ago today, the town was devastated by an EF-5 tornado that killed 24 people and injured over 200 others.
The last High Risk issued by the Storm Prediction Center was 2 years ago on May 18, 2017.
In addition to the tornado and severe weather risk, there is a high risk of significant and life-threatening flash flooding.
