UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA9) – The man charged in the death of a Prince George's County police officer is now charged with witness retaliation, says Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks.
Kevon Neal already faces a motor vehicle manslaughter charge in the death of Officer Adrian Morris. Thursday, Alsobrooks said he was indicted on charges of witness retaliation and obstruction of justice after prosecutors received information that Neal allegedly solicited a person to kill a witness who testified against him at his trial in January.
The January trial ended in a mistrial when a juror informed the court, during jury deliberations, that due to religious beliefs, he or she would not be able to pass judgment against another person.
According to Alsobrooks in a statement, "Prosecutors plan to file a motion to consolidate the new charges with the ones Neal is already facing. Neal is currently scheduled to stand trial on June 9, 2014."
Neal was the driver of a vehicle that Morris and his partner pursued in relation to an attempted theft at a gas station in Beltsville, say officials. During the pursuit, Morris lost control of his police cruiser and crashed. He died as a result of his injuries.
