Surae Chinn is excited to be back in her home town reporting the news in the nation's capital. She joined WUSA 9 in March of 2009.

Surae spent four years as a weekend morning anchor in Kansas City, Missouri at KCTV5. She covered breaking news and severe weather. This east-coaster will always have a soft spot for the City of Fountains and the Midwest because that's where she met her husband; appropriately, a meteorologist. Before KC, Surae was the weekend evening anchor at WSET in Lynchburg, VA. She's also an award-winning reporter, receiving a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for her special coverage and 30-minute newscast on GITMO. In addition, she received an Associated Press awards for best documentary.

Surae graduated from Virginia Tech. She is a member of the Asian American Journalist Association.Surae enjoys traveling, yoga and getting reacquainted with her hometown. So much has changed but yet has stayed the same. Surae was born in Hawaii, but all her familyis in Virginia.

Surae is married, and they have two rescue pets: a dog, Melvin, and cat, Mei Li.
