BALTIMORE — President Joe Biden will be traveling to Baltimore Friday afternoon to tour the collapse site of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
The president will leave the White House at 12:15 p.m. and is expected to arrive in Baltimore around 1 p.m. The White House says he will receive an aerial tour of the collapsed bridge alongside Gov. Wes Moore and other officials involved in the recovery process.
Biden will meet with federal, local and state officials as well as first responders, and be briefed on the response and recovery efforts still happening.
He will then meet with the family members of the six construction workers who died while working on the bridge at the time of the collapse.
WUSA9 has continued to follow this story, including the economic impact following the bridge collapse. The port has been closed for 10 days as of April 5, and it is a major economic hub handling nearly $81 billion of cargo last year.
More than 500 businesses from five states and D.C. are requesting federal assistance of up to $2 million.
The Army Corps of Engineers says it's aiming to reopen a much larger channel for Port of Baltimore traffic by the end of April. The group also believes they can get the entire channel back open by the end of May.
