BALTIMORE — A mural developed to honor the lives of the victims of the Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore was vandalized Friday night, leaving police searching for the culprits.
The artist, Roberto Marquez, was painting the mural to tell the story of the bridge's collapse that happened in March. But early Saturday morning he discovered someone had cut large holes into the mural and also had broken the support braces.
That caused the mural to collapse — much like the bridge itself. Officials say the crosses, flags, and other elements of the tribute will stay at the memorial site.
The six victims of the collapse, and the people the work honored, are José Mynor López, Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval, Carlos Daniel Hernandez Estrella, and Miguel Angel Luna Gonzalez.
