What still needs to be done following Francis Scott Key Bridge demolition?

BALTIMORE — New video from the Army Corps of Engineers shows what still needs to be done following the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse and demolition of a large steel span that rested atop the cargo ship Dali. 

The video shows a large chunk of the bridge still on top of the Dali. It also shows the massive cut pieces of the bridge on a salvage barge. 

Meanwhile, Unified Command officials say they are pushing back the date to refloat the ship. They say they need to wait for the results of a diver inspection before moving forward with reopening Fort McHenry Federal Channel.

"To permit safe diver access to the Patapsco riverbed next to the vessel, Unified Command cranes must first remove submerged and unstable wreckage from the controlled demolition," officials said.

Nearly 50% of the 700-foot-wide federal channel had already been cleared before the controlled demolition last week. The federal channel is expected to be fully capable of supporting all commercial vessels in and out of the Port of Baltimore to a minimum operational depth of 50 feet in the weeks ahead.

Meanwhile, the Port of Baltimore announced news of the first cruise to set sail from the port since the bridge collapsed. The port says Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas will depart from the port on May 25 for a five-night trip to Bermuda.
