WASHINGTON -- The National Park Service has started draining the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to repair a broken water line, which has affected the water quality of the pool, a press release said.
While the pool is empty, it'll be cleaned. The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool should be refilled and working again by the week of June 16, the release said.
According to the release, the water line issue has compromised the circulation system in the pool, which has led to issues with the water quality including algae growth and a noticeable "green tint to the water."
It'll take about five to six days for the pool to fully drain. Then crews will start repairing and cleaning the pool bottom, "utilizing skid steers, pumper and water trucks and a sprayer."
The release said the repairs and cleaning process is expected to last a week. Then, the refilling process will begin.
