Prince George's County special election results

Voters placed their ballots in the special primary held to fill the open at-large seat on the Prince George's County Council.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — Prince George's County Board of Elections has finished tabulating all the mail-in and provisional ballots for the special primary held on Aug. 6. Jolene Ivey will represent the Democratic party and Michael Riker will represent the Republican party in the general election held on Nov. 5. 

On Aug. 6, voters placed their ballots in the special primary held to fill the open at-large seat on the Prince George's County Council. 

Ivey and Riker both hope to replace former At-Large County Councilmember Mel Franklin (D), a 14-year veteran of the council, who resigned on June 14. Then less than a week later, charges were filed against Franklin for embezzling campaign funds.

The winner of November's special general election will serve the remaining two years of Franklin's term on the Council.

  • Angela M. Angel (D)- 5.4%
  • Tamara Davis Brown (D)- 9.2%

  • Marvin E. Holmes, Jr. (D)- 2.4%
  • Jolene Ivey (D)- 47.5%
  • Kiesha D. Lewis (D)- 1.4%
  • Judy Mickens-Murray (D)- 1.1%
  • Gabriel Njinimbot (D)- 1.9%

  • Kamita Gray (R)- 12%
  • Michael Riker (R)- 45.1%
  • Isaac Toyos (R)- 11.9%

Jolene Ivey (D)
A resident of Cheverly, she currently represents District 5 on the Prince George's County Council. She is in her second 4-year term. Ivey is also Chair of the Prince George's County Council. Previously she served in the Maryland House of Delegates (2007-2015).

Michael Riker (R)
He is a retired Prince George's County police officer. He worked in law enforcement for 25 years, three of them with the US Capitol Police. He lives in Cheltenham.
