WASHINGTON -- Virginia voted to approve question two on the Virginia ballot, which would allow surviving military spouses to be tax exempt on property, even if they move.

On November 6th, Virginia voters were asked whether the property tax exemption law should be changed to allow surviving spouses to move and still claim the exemption.

The existing state law granted the property tax exemption only if the grieving spouse stayed in the same house.

By voting "yes," Virginian residents voted to remove the restriction where the surviving spouse of a disabled military veteran cannot move to another location and still receiving the tax property exemption.

Most states do have property tax exemptions for 100 percent disabled veterans. Most do not allow those exemptions to travel with the surviving spouse.
