LEESBURG, Va. — A special election will take place on January 7, 2025, to fill the Virginia Senate seat in the 32nd District, which has become vacant following the resignation of Suhas Subramanyam. Subramanyam, who served in the Virginia Senate, is stepping down to represent Virginia in the U.S. Congress. The special election, set to be held in Loudoun County, will determine the next state senator to represent the district.

On Monday, Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas officially announced the special election to fill the vacancy in the Virginia Senate. Subramanyam’s resignation has created the need for this election. The 32nd District includes parts of Loudoun County, and the seat has attracted considerable attention as voters prepare to choose a new representative.

According to Lucas, the election is set for January 7, 2025. The deadline for candidates to file for the special election is November 18 by 5:00 p.m. The announcement has set in motion the process of determining who will step into the role and continue to represent the interests of the 32nd District in the Virginia Senate.
