VIRGINIA, USA — Elections were held in all of Virginia's 11 U.S. House seats on Tuesday, as well as one U.S. Senate seat. Virginia voters also decided on whether to revise qualifications to receive veterans' survivor benefits.
In the U.S. Senate race, AP projects Democratic incumbent Tim Kaine won reelection against Republican Hung Cao. Kaine has served in the U.S. Senate since 2013, and in 2016 was Hillary Clinton's running mate during the presidential election. Kaine also served as governor of Virginia from 2006 to 2010.
In Virginia's 1st congressional district, which contains parts of the Richmond Suburbs and the Hampton Roads area, AP projects Republican Rep. Rob Wittman will win reelection. Rep. Wittman has served in Congress since 2007. Wittman defeated Democratic candidate Leslie Mehta.
In Virginia U.S. House District 3, which includes Norfolk, Newport News and Chesapeake, AP projected that Democratic Rep. Bobby Scott has won reelection. 77-year-old Rep. Scott has represented the 3rd district since 1993. Scott defeated Republican candidate John Sitka.

In the 4th district, which makes up most of the area between Richmond and the North Carolina state line, AP projects Democratic Rep. Jennifer McClellan has won reelection. This would be Rep. McClellan's second term in Congress. McClellan defeated Republican William Moher.
In Virginia's 5th congressional district, which contains the cities of Charlottesville, Danville and Lynchburg, Republican State Senator John McGuire is the projected winner, according to AP McGuire will replace Rep. Bob Good, who he defeated during the Republican primary in July. In the general election, McGuire defeated Democratic candidate Gloria Witt.
In Virginia's 6th congressional district , which includes most of the Shenandoah Valley, AP projects Republican Rep. Ben Cline has won reelection. Rep. Cline has represented the district in congress since 2019. Cline defeated Democratic candidate Ken Mitchell.
Democrat Eugene Vindman defeated Republican Derrick Anderson in the race to replace Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger, AP projects. Rep. Spanberger announced last year that she would not run for reelection in 2024, instead choosing to run for governor in 2025. The 49-year-old retired Army Lt. Colonel Vindman will represent Virginia's 7th district, which includes Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania among other Northern Virginia towns.
In the 8th district, which covers parts of Alexandria, Falls Church and Arlington, Democratic Rep. Don Beyer was the projected winner. Beyer has held this office since 2015, he defeated Republican Jerry Torres, according to the Associated Press.
In the 9th district, which includes much of Southwestern Virginia, Republican Rep. Morgan Griffith has won reelection. Rep. Griffith has served in Congress since 2011. Griffith defeated Democratic candidate Karen Baker.
Democratic State Senator Suhas Subramanyam is the projected winner of Virginia's 11th congressional district, defeating Republican opponent Mike Clancy. 38-year-old Subramanyam will succeed Democratic Rep. Jennifer Wexton to represent the district that includes all of Rappahannock, Fauquier and Loudoun Counties, as well as parts of Fairfax and Prince William Counties. The 11th district also includes Manassas and Manassas Park.
Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly was the projected winner for his reelection campaign in Virginia's 11th congressional district, which includes most of Fairfax County. Rep. Connolly has served in Congress since 2009. Connolly defeated Republican Mike Van Meter in Tuesday's election.
Virginia voters also passed Virginia Question 1, which revises qualifications to receive veterans' survivor benefits. Benefits would now extend to veterans' who died in the line of duty, instead of only those who were killed in action.
