Prince George's County special election voter guide

Special primary is August 6; Poll Hours 7am-8pm

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — The special primary to fill the open at-large seat on the Prince George's County Council will be Tuesday, August 6. Poll hours are 7am-8pm.

Thirteen candidates will be on the ballot for the special primary election-nine democrats and four republicans.
However, it should be noted one of the democratic candidates, Kiesha Lewis, tells WUSA9, in an email,  she is no longer running in the primary. Lewis' name will still be on the ballot because they were printed before her announcement.

Early voting will take place starting July 31, and ends on August 5. The winners of the primary will go on to the special general election on November 5.

The candidates are looking to replace former At-Large County Councilmember Mel Franklin (D), a 14-year veteran of the council, who resigned on June 14. Then less than a week later, charges were filed against Franklin for allegedly embezzling campaign funds.

The winner of November's special general election will serve the remaining two years of Franklin's term on the Council.
