A former D.C. mayor and current councilmember suffered a mild stroke while hospitalized over the weekend, according to his staff.
Ward 7 Councilmember Vincent Gray checked himself into a local hospital after developing bronchitis, according to a press release sent Monday evening from Gray's office. While in the hospital, he experienced a mild stroke. But his staff indicated Gray is recovering well and eager to get back home.
"Gray worked on Ward 7 redistricting issues and other Council business from the hospital today," the statement said. "The Councilmember is upbeat and eager to return home and to the office."
Gray's office did say he would not attend Tuesday's scheduled Council meetings, but that he had been in touch with the council chairman.
Issues on the agenda for Tuesday's council meeting include the renaming of D.C.'s Woodrow Wilson High School ("Jackson-Reed High SchoolDesignation Act of 2021”) and committee consideration of measures from the Subcommittee on Redistricting ("Ward Redistricting Amendment Act of 2021"). The full legislative agenda can be found online here.
