Hogan, Alsobrooks campaign in Prince George's County

Both candidates said the stakes are high this election, and each hope to be a changemaker if they get chosen to represent Maryland in the Senate.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — On Tuesday, Prince George’s County was the stage for Maryland’s US Senate hopefuls.

Democratic Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and Republican former Governor Larry Hogan held events throughout the day, speaking with their supporters.

During a Q&A session with Bowie's seniors, Alsobrooks promised to build on the Biden administration’s work lowering drug costs and safeguarding social security. The Democratic candidate also addressed other campaign issues, including inflation and the Electoral College. Alsobrooks said that if elected, she would take her work on affordable housing to the Senate.

“We have preserved or built 5,000 units of workforce and affordable housing in Prince George’s County since 2020,” Alsobrooks said on Tuesday. “I’ll be working as a Senator to solve the issue around affordable housing across the state.”

Hogan also used his past work to give voters a preview of his future agenda.

The former governor attended an online town hall held by the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington, where he reaffirmed his support for Israel, speak out against antisemitism.

That  afternoon, Hogan stopped at Prince George's Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 89 in Upper Marlboro.

Lodge leaders announced their support for Hogan, and thanked Hogan for his support during his time as governor.

Earlier this month, Hogan received the unanimous endorsement of the Maryland Fraternal Order of Police, the largest law enforcement organization in the state representing over 20,000 active and retired officers.

During the meet-and-greet, Hogan highlighted the $500 million he put towards funding Maryland’s law enforcement in 2020, and how he plans to expand on that.

“I’m going to try and push for a national Refund the Police initiative, just like I did at the state level to provide whatever support and funding we can,” he said.

Current polling shows Hogan trailing Alsobrooks by around nine points, but neither candidate is letting up on reaching out to voters. With the election just three weeks away, both candidates say their supporters have given them a clear agenda to work on in the Senate.

“I would sponsor a bill to codify Roe and protect IVF, then we’re going to work on things that’re important to most voters in Maryland, which is the economy, crime, and securing the border and fixing our broken immigration system,” Hogan said.

”We hear things that resonate consistently: affordable housing, affordable prescription drug medication, making sure their children have opportunities…those are a lot of the issues that we hear,” Alsobrooks said.
