ROCKVILLE, Md. — Police are taking a second look at their investigation into an incident inside Wootton High School’s football locker room that was initially reported by a 9-1-1 caller as a possible sexual assault Tuesday. The information comes from three sources with knowledge of the case who’ve spoken to WUSA9 but cannot speak publicly on the matter.
The sources report that at least one first-hand witness to the Wootton incident Tuesday has been called back to be re-interviewed by Special Victims Unit Detectives of the Montgomery County Police.
Police continue to stand by a written statement released Wednesday saying the case was “not a sexual assault” and that the investigation has been handed off to the school system for internal investigation.
“There is no further criminal investigation and no charges are forthcoming at this time,” the department’s Wednesday statement said.
WUSA9 reported Thursday that attorney Timothy Maloney said he is aware of a person who claims to have seen what appeared to be an “attempted rape with a broom” of a football player occurring in the locker room.

Maloney has been investigating Montgomery County Public schools as part of a lawsuit in the wake of a 2018 sexual assault with a broomstick at Damascus High school.
Wootton principal Kim Bolden reacted in the hours after the incident at Wootton Tuesday by sending an email to football parents telling them to ask players who may have recorded what happened to “delete and not share it”.
“If your child needs additional support, please know that our counselors will be available to help our students process this event," the email went on to say.
A later email reversed course, asking parents and students to share any recordings or other evidence with authorities.
Dylan Safai, the president of the senior class at Wootton, said students are looking forward to hearing more detailed information.
“I haven't heard too much about what's going on with the football team but I know they had a meeting today and I know they discussed it further," the 18-year-old student said. "I hope that they share with the students and staff what happened."
Wootton parent Drew Golub said more information would be welcome.
“I’d be concerned if there's a cover-up," Golub said. "I'd be concerned if there was any alleged activity that shouldn't happen in a locker room."
Golub added that Principal Bolden has a reputation as a "straight shooter" and that he remains confident in her ability to handle the situation.
Wootton's football team was scheduled to take the field at Magruder High School Friday night. Montgomery County School authorities have not announced any findings or revealed any disciplinary actions.
