US Marshals shoot attempted carjacker, DC Police investigating

Marshals shot 18-year-old Kentrell Flowers during an alleged carjacking attempt early Friday morning.

WASHINGTON — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating after two Deputy United States Marshals shot at a man they say attempted to carjack one of them early Friday morning.

According to MPD, the marshals were inside a parked car in the 2100 block of 11th Street, Northwest at 1:15 p.m. when a person exited another vehicle and approached one of the marshals. That man reportedly pointed a gun at the marshal and tried to carjack him.

The marshal then used his service weapon to shoot several times at the man who reportedly tried to carjack him. A second marshal, who was in another car, also fired at the suspect.

The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Kentrell Flowers, was taken to an area hospital for treatment and is expected to survive. Neither of the marshals were injured in the attempted carjacking.

Flowers has been charged with armed carjacking, carrying a pistol without a license, and possession of a large-capacity ammunition feed device.

The circumstances surrounding the marshal shooting Flowers remains under investigation by MPD's Internal Affairs Division’s Force Investigations Team, which investigates all law enforcement officer-involved shootings in the District.

Anyone with information may contact MPD at (202) 727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.
