Alexandria Police investigating after man found dead in river

The body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner who will conduct an autopsy and determine the cause and manner of death.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Police are investigating after a man was found dead in a river near Four Mile Park Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Alexandria Police Department, officers were called to the 4100 block of Mount Vernon Avenue shortly before 1:30 p.m. for reports of a dead person in a river.

Upon arrival, officers found the unidentified man, who was declared deceased by officials. 

The body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner who will conduct an autopsy and determine the cause and manner of death.

There is no word on the circumstances surrounding the man's death at this time. Anyone with information can contact detectives through the department's non-emergency number at 703-746-4444.
