DC Police shoot, kill dog who charged at and bit officer in Northwest

The dog reportedly charged and the officers, who were responding

WASHINGTON — Police are investigating after officers shot and killed a dog they say charged at them, biting one, in Northwest D.C. 

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened in the 6700 block of Piney Branch Rd. around 6 p.m. 

Officers were called to the area for reports of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers say a dog charged at them and bit one of the officers. 

At least one of the responding officers shot their gun and hit the dog, which died at the scene of the shooting. 

One of the officers was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

The shooting is under investigation by MPD's Internal Affairs Division's Force Investigations Team. The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
