FORT MEADE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Monday, federal investigators returned to the scene of a small plane crash in Maryland that injured two men.

The single-engine plane crashed on its top shortly after takeoff on Sunday in woods near Tipton Airport close to Fort Meade. It's unclear where the Grumman American AA-1 was going before it crashed or why it crashed.

The crash injured 82-year-old Thomas Cline of Silver Spring and 57-year-old Jeffry Barnett of Glen Burnie. It took almost an hour for first responders to free them from the wreckage. They were flown to Baltimore's Shock Trauma Center. Cline was in critical condition on Monday, and Barnett was listed in fair condition.

Monday, NTSB, with the assistance of the FAA, continued the investigation into Sunday's plane crash. NTSB says FAA is helping with the field work but that they are not at the site of the crash right now.
