A man posing as an Army Ranger to allegedly get military discounts on Black Friday may face federal charges after being called out by a Purple Heart recipient in a viral video, according to Philly.com.
It happened in a shopping mall in a Philadelphia suburb, and U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks) asked the U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia to determine if there was evidence of a federal crime, according to the report.
Passed in 2013, the Stolen Valor Act makes it a federal crime for people to pose as war heroes by wearing uniforms and medals they didn't rightfully earn.
The video was captured by Ryan Berk, a member of the 101st Airborne Division who served in Afghanistan. In the video, which has been viewed more than 2 million times, Berk calls out the man posing as an Army Ranger for numerous inconsistencies with his uniform and back story.
