Some North Carolina service members participated in a Veterans Day celebration of a different kind. It was a gender reveal for the widow of a US Navy member who was killed when a military plane crash months ago.

Cassie Lohrey wanted to honor her husband who died when a KC-130, out of Cherry Point, NC, crashed in Mississippi on July 10. Lohrey's husband Ryan Lohrey was aboard the plane. He was among the 16 killed and the only Sailor.

According to a post from SaralynJ Photography, who helped arrange the reveal, Cassie and Ryan had only been married for a month when the plane crashed killing him and 15 others. Three weeks later, Cassie found out that she was expecting--she's due March 2018.

She told SaralynJ Photography "the baby has given her a reason to celebrate life again and not just walk through it."

Lohrey told Saralyn Johnson she decided that the best way to announce the gender of this special gift would be to honor her husband's memory and his service on Veteran's Day. She asked a few of his friends and team members to help with the announcement. The word spread and more wanted to be involved in this special event. It soon grew to 16 servicemen to help her announce the gender of this very special baby.
