PAGE COUNTY, Va. — The assistant principal of Briar Woods High School in Loudoun County, Va. died in a car crash on Monday evening, according the school's principal.
Police say 27-year-old Jonathan D. Kite died at the scene as a result of the injuries he sustained during the crash.
On Monday around 4:54 p.m., police say Kite's vehicle ran off the roadway on Route 211, went across the median and hit another car head-on. The driver of that car also died at the scene, police said. His identity has not been been released.
The impact of the crash caused Kite's vehicle to hit another car after the initial collision. The 27-year-old woman who was driving the third car was no injured in the crash, police said.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
On Tuesday, the principal of Briar Woods High School sent the following statement to students' parents:
"To the members of the Briar Woods community,
This is Principal Chris O’Rourke. I am sorry to inform you of the passing of one our assistant principals, Jonathan Kite, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a traffic accident Monday afternoon in Page County.
Jonathan made an indelible mark on our community since joining the Briar Woods administrative team two years ago after serving at Potomac Falls High School and with the central administration. I will let you know about services for Jonathan when that information becomes available.
Counseling staff will be on hand at Briar Woods to speak with anyone who may need some assistance during this difficult time."
