WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- WUSA 9 TV anchor JC Hayward is retiring after more than 40 years.
"I have had a glorious 43 years with Channel 9," said Hayward, one of DC's premiere news personalities on Friday. "The people at the station have been my family for 43 years and they will always remain so in my thoughts and wonderful memories as I venture into this new phase of life."
As the D.C. market's first female news anchor, the awards and honors for JC Hayward are numerous, including being inducted into the National Association of Broadcast Journalists Hall of Fame, being voted Washingtonian Magazine's "Washingtonian of The Year" and recently being honored by the Capital Press Club for her years of service.
WUSA9 President and General Manager Mark Burdett congratulated Hayward on her retirement. He added, "JC has been an inspiration to all, as she devoted her passion and energy every day to WUSA 9. For more than 40 years JC worked tirelessly to inform and serve the community in an effort to help make Washington, D.C. a better place to live and work."
"On behalf of everyone here at WUSA 9 past and present, we want to say 'thank you, JC, for all you have given us' and we wish you the very best in this new chapter of life."
