It’s coined as the largest gay dance club in Washington, D.C. that is known for its pulsating music, flashy lights, and large crowds.

However, the Town Danceboutique announced its closing on July 1, 2018.

“I know people that go there on a regular basis, and it's always full so that is really surprising to me,” Sally Frank said.

A developer bought the property back in the spring of 2016 with plans to eventually turn it into an apartment building.

“It was a very comfortable place and really exciting and fun and natural to be there,” Frank explained.

Customers sounded off on social media calling this news “heartbreaking” and “sad.”

Others thanked the club for its support and inclusive environment.

Partygoers also remembered the good times, and some voiced frustrations with the move – calling it “gentrification.”

“I think there is a fine line between recreating a city and reviving a city and then destroying a culture that's already there and ignoring it,” Frank said.

Club owners plan to spend their final year celebrating the last 10 they’ve been open.

They’re going to bring back memorable DJ’s and performers – and want the community to weigh in.
