RESTON, Va. -- Wegmans Food Markets has signed a lease for an 80,000 square-foot supermarket to serve as the retail anchor on the ground level of Halley Rise – a new $1.4 billion mixed-use project in Fairfax County, Brookfield Properties confirms to WUSA9.
"We’'e proud to continue our growth in Northern Virginia and be part of this exciting project in Reston," Wegmans Sr. Vice President of Real Estate Ralph Uttaro said.
The new home of a future Wegman’s store will be at Dulles Toll Road (VA Route 267) and Reston Parkway in Fairfax County, according to the company's website. It’s among several new Wegmans stores opening in the DMV area. Check here for other store locations.

Halley Rise, a new $1.4 billion mixed-use district, will transform a 36-acre office park in Reston into 3.5 million square feet of new housing, dynamic local retail, modern offices, public green spaces, and year-round cultural activations.

Formerly known as Reston Crescent, Halley Rise, is directly adjacent to the new D.C. Metro Silver Line station in Reston and is slated to open in 2020. The project will provide Reston’s downtown area with a new destination for people to live, work, dine, shop and socialize. Halley Rise will bring a total of 1,500 residential units, 1.5 million square feet of office space, 250,000 square feet of retail, 5 acres of public open space, and brand-new public streets and infrastructure when fully completed by 2026.
"I am excited to see Brookfield implementing Fairfax County’s vision for smart, urban, mixed-use development near Reston’s newest Metro station, particularly when its initial phase includes much-needed market and workforce housing units and Reston’s first Wegmans location," Fairfax County Hunter Mill District Supervisor Catherine M. Hudgins said.
Construction at Halley Rise is set to begin mid-2019. The first phase is expected to be completed in 2022, and will include 640 residential units, 450,000 square feet of office space, 200,000 square feet of retail and two new parks.
