WATCH: Smash-and-grab burglars strike at 7-Eleven in Silver Spring

Three men used truck to ram into store in Silver Spring, steal ATM

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Smash-and-grab bandits have stuck again at 7-Eleven ATM in Silver Spring.

Three men used a truck to ram a 7-Eleven storefront in the 12200 block of Tech Road around 3:18 a.m. Thursday, Montgomery County police officials.

The store sustained heavy damage. The suspects were able to load the ATM onto a truck and take off, police said.

Employees were in the store at the time, but no one was injured, police said.

Authorities are looking for an older model Ford or Dodge pickup with likely has rear-end damage.

It is just the latest incident in a string of at least five similar high-profile robberies, targeting only 7 Elevens and using trucks as a battering ram.

The last incident happened at a 7-Eleven on South Dakota Avenue in northeast D.C. less than a week ago, ended with the suspects leaving the scene without the ATM or the pickup, which was still lodged in the storefront when police arrived, officials said.

Other 7-Elevens were hit in Mt. Ranier and Upper Marlboro in April, and West Lanham Hills in March, but only the West Lanham Hills robbery proved successful.
