An overcrowded Montgomery County school is about to get a major upgrade.
Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda has been approved for a $24.5 million addition, which will make room for nearly 400 more students.
The plan calls for the demolition of the former Whittier Woods Elementary next door.
Whitman will gain nearly 20 classrooms, five science labs, a courtyard, a dance studio, as well as additional parking spaces.
There will also be space for future expansion, too.
The project is expected to begin in December and be completed by September 2021.
