DULLES, Va. — Zebra and giraffe bones are not something you see every day, unless on a museum visit, but on Tuesday agriculture specialists at Washington Dulles International Airport were in for an admission-free surprise.
Specialists with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) found zebra and giraffe bones inside a passenger's bag at the international airport. According to a tweet from Stephen Maloney, the CBP’s Director of Field Operations in Baltimore, the bones were seized at the request of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
This is not the first time the Dulles Airport has come across an unusual item they have had to seize.
In April of this year, officials found charred bat meat in the baggage of a Maryland man who landed at the airport from Ghana. Though it is a common staple in the Africa, it is illegal in the U.S.
And animal bones are not the only unique find seen in luggage at the airport this year. At the end of November, a live cat was spotted at a TSA checkpoint at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. The traveler said the cat snuck into his baggage without him knowing.
Unsure if the item you are traveling with is prohibited?
