PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — GOP newcomer Yesli Vega, who faced off against Democratic incumbent Abigail Spanberger in the 7th Congressional District race in Virginia, has conceded Wednesday, the day after Election Day.
Spanberger was announced as the projected winner by the Associated Press in the closely watched congressional race Tuesday night. The race was considered to be one of the most competitive races, with officials even saying it could set the stage to who could control the House after the 2022 midterm elections.
With the news of the loss for her campaign, Vega released a statement expressing how she feels, congratulating the Spanberger, and showing appreciation to her family and supporters.

"From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who committed their time, treasure, and prayers to our campaign. We gave it our all, but came up a little short last night. God is still on the throne.
I want to congratulate the Congresswoman on a hard fought win. As Supervisor, I look forward to working with Abigail in the future.
While this loss is heartbreaking, I'm still committed to serving the people of Prince William County on the board of supervisors. We live in the greatest country in the world, and I pray for a better and brighter future for all.
Thank you to my friends and family for your unconditional love and support throughout this campaign. Rene, thank you for your selfless sacrifice. Mami and Papi, thank you for your prayers and love. To Neysi and Papo, Mom is sorry she had to miss so many soccer games this season.
Thank you for allowing me to do this. I'm getting caught up on your laundry today.
To the wonderful citizens of Virginia Seven - thank you to everyone who came out and voted and for blessing me with the opportunity to be a candidate in this race."
