Woman stabbed in Woodbridge with 7-year-old in home

Officers responded around 6 a.m. to a home in the 13700 block of Greenwood Drive to investigate a domestic dispute.

DALE CITY, Va. — A woman was seriously injured and a man is in custody after a stabbing in Woodbridge on Saturday.

Officers with the Prince William County Police Department responded around 6 a.m. to a home in the 13700 block of Greenwood Drive in the Dale City area of Woodbridge to investigate a domestic dispute.

According to investigators, a man and woman who are family members were involved in an altercation when it escalated, and the man stabbed the woman multiple times.

Other people who lived there intervened, and the suspect fled the home, police said. A 7-year-old boy was home during the altercation and was unharmed.

Officers located the suspect near the home and detained him without incident.

The victim was treated for serious injuries at an area hospital. Her current condition is unknown.

The suspect was identified as Juan Ernesto Velit Chicoma, 57, of Woodbridge. He's facing charges of aggravated malicious wounding, domestic assault & battery, and child neglect.

He's being held without bond.
