STAFFORD, Va. — Editor's note: The video above is on file from a separate story that aired on November 28, 2022.
A driver hit and injured a deputy in Stafford County, Virginia, with a car, drove off, then ran on foot with her passenger, officials said.
A deputy pulled over a woman who the sheriff's office said was speeding in a Nissan Altima near the intersection of Garrisonville Road and Eustace Road around 3:43 p.m., Major C. Shawn Kimmitz of Commander of the Operations Bureau said.
As the deputy approached the car on foot, the driver started moving - she hit the deputy with her car, his motorcycle, and another vehicle on the roadway, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.
The driver continued east down Garrisonville Road and stopped near the 610 Car Wash. The sherriff's office said the driver and passenger then got out of the car and ran off into the woods.
Two lanes of Eastbound Garrisonville Road at Eustance were closed for roughly 20 minutes but have since been reopened.
The deputy was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Drone and K-9 units responded to the scene and helped search for the driver.
The passenger was detained after an extensive search, but police believed the woman fled the county, authorities said.
The sheriff's office said they know the woman's identity but will continue efforts to locate her.
