STAFFORD, Va. — A 43-year-old Woodbridge woman was arrested in Stafford, Virginia, after police say she hit a teenager, causing serious injuries, all while drinking and driving.
Deputies responded to the 100 block of Choptank Road in Aquia Harbor for a report of a pedestrian-struck accident around 6 p.m. on Dec. 3, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.
The Stafford Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit was assisting the Fredericksburg City Police at the time of the incident but was able to leave the Christmas parade to respond to the scene and conduct accident reconstruction.
The initial investigation revealed Melissa Jones was driving while drunk and hit a teenager walking in the area with her 2000 Dodge Durango. Deputy E.E. West arrested Jones for DUI. The teen was flown to Fairfax Hospital by helicopter with serious injuries, officials said.
Jones was charged with driving under the influence, maiming while driving under the influence, and drinking while driving. She is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Deputy R.A. Weatherholtz at 540-658-4400.
