LORTON, Va. — A dramatic ending to a peculiar series of events in Virginia. On Tuesday officers arrived at Eaton Woods Place around 4 p.m. after receiving a call about a man abusing an animal and threatening to stab its owner.
The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Daniel John Sol. Police say Sol approached the victim while they were walking their dog. Then reportedly unprovoked, Sol picked up the dog and began shaking it. Police say he briefly left the scene, but then returned with a knife and threatened to stab the victim.
Police have not released any information on who the victim was or how their dog is doing.
As for Sol, this was not the end of his rampage. Witnesses nearby flagged down police to report a man, ramming cars and driving recklessly in the streets. The man in the complaints was Sol and when officers attempted to approach him, they say he fled in a 2017 black Toyota Yaris.
Franconia Police began to pursue him, which led to a 12.5-mile car chase which ended with Sol crashing into a tree. Sol did not sustain any major injuries and was taken into custody.
Unfortunately, the cars that Sol was ramming before the pursuit, did incur minor damages.
Sol is being held at the Adult Detention Center without bond. He is facing cruelty to animals, attempted malicious wounding, four counts of Felony hit and run, reckless driving, eluding, and a laundry list of other charges.
As this is an ongoing case more information will be released at a later time. At this time we do not know why Sol committed these crimes or when his first hearing is set.
