Va. woman says she accidentally shot and killed husband

A woman was arrested Monday after she claims she accidentally shot and killed her husband in their Spotslyvania home.

SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A woman was arrested Monday after she claims she accidentally shot and killed her husband in their Spotslyvania home, police said.

Laurence Marie-Flora Smith, 37 of Spotsylvania was charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony, police said.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., police say officers received a call from Smith saying she had accidentally shot her husband at their residence in the 6000 block of Harrison Road.

When officers arrived, police say they the found the victim Sean Smith, 44, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

After Smith's statement and several interviews, police say she was arrested and charged. Smith was ordered to be held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail, police said.
