Three people sent to hospital after Fairfax Co. store evacuated for carbon monoxide leak

The Americana grocery store in Falls Church was evacuated around 2 p.m. because of a faulty piece of equipment in the store's ventilation.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Three people were taken to a hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning after a leak at a grocery store in Falls Church around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to Fairfax County officials.

The leak was reportedly at the Americana grocery store in the 6100 block of Columbia Pike in the Lake Barcroft area, and officials believe it was caused by a malfunctioning appliance that was being used in the ventilation system.

Officials said the leak has been stopped and that the building is being ventilated to allow for the carbon monoxide to leave the store. The appliance has also been shut off.

No further updates have been provided about the people take to a hospital to be evaluated for carbon monoxide poisoning.
