HERNDON, Va. — Police released a new video showing a suspect shooting into a crowded restaurant on Saturday, Nov. 6 in downtown Herndon. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Police are looking for two suspects, the shooter and an accomplice.
The shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. and according to police, the suspect and his accomplice were asked to leave the establishment after a confrontation with employees and other patrons.
In a video released to the media, the suspect and his accomplice are talking to an employee in the building. The video continued to show that the conversation begins to become more intense, when another person inside the establishment decides to step in, they were sitting nearby with a possible woman and young child.
The suspect and his accomplice appear to begin to be escorted out and are about to leave. Then, the accomplice walks over to what is believed to be a woman and child. Because there is no audio, WUSA9 cannot confirm what is said. In the video, you can see the suspect and the patron get into a shoving match, when the suspect pulls out a gun and points it at various people, including the patron and possible woman and child inside the crowded building.
The two men left. Then about five minutes later, police claim the suspect and his accomplice returned. They ran west on Elden Street past the establishment. One of the suspects fired one shot into the crowded building and continued westbound.
"I’ve been a chief here for almost 10 years, and we’ve never had something this dangerous, this violent, really occur in the downtown area," Herndon Police Chief Maggie DeBoard said. "When I first heard about the event, I had perceptions in my mind of what it would look like, and when I saw it on video, I realized how lucky everybody in that establishment was. It was clearly a random act of violence among complete strangers that came out of nowhere. Little kids were in the restaurant."
Witnesses say the suspects left the area in a grey Nissan. Herndon Police responded to the scene within 30 seconds of the call, according to Chief DeBoard.
No arrests have been made yet. Pending charges include brandishing a firearm, reckless discharge of a weapon, firing into an occupied dwelling, among others.
HPD is requesting anyone who can identify the suspect or the accomplice, or were there during the incident, to call us at 703-435-6846.
