Driver arrested after high-speed chase on I-95 in Stafford County

Police say the woman was weaving through traffic at speeds over 118 mph.

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Authorities say a woman in Stafford County was on drugs when she led deputies on a high-speed chase on Interstate 95 on Monday afternoon. Investigators say 30-year-old Shannon Beck is being held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Stafford Co. deputy M.A. Holub was driving northbound on I-95 near Warrenton Road in his cruiser when a Nissan Rogue sped past him on the shoulder. The deputy activated his lights and sirens, but Beck did not stop. She instead sped up to over 118 mph and weaved through traffic.

Responding deputies attempted to use a spike strip near the Courthouse Road exit to stop Beck, but were not successful.  As the pursuit continued to mile marker 142, Beck was forced to slow for traffic. Deputies utilized a rolling road block, with Deputy Holub pulling alongside the SUV and pushing it into a concrete Jersey wall. Other deputies used their cruisers to box Beck in in the front and rear.

The driver was taken into custody without incident. Deputies also conducted a field sobriety test at the scene.

Beck was charged with felony eluding, reckless driving, no insurance and driving under the influence of drugs.
