Shirlington hosts 'Light Up The Village' tree lighting ceremony

The free event will feature a holiday musical performance, horse and carriage rides as well as photos with Santa.

ARLINGTON, Va. — It's the season of festive holiday events, and this Arlington neighborhood is joining in on the fun.

Organizers of the Thursday tree lighting ceremony are inviting locals and visitors alike to get in the holiday spirit at "Light Up the Village" from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

This event is free to attend and RSVPs aren't required. Those heading to Shirlington for the celebration are also invited to the village's information booth and enter for a chance to win a $150 gift card.

Below is a schedule of the night's events:

  • 6 p.m. Holiday Musical Performance by Signature Theatre
  • 6:30 p.m. Tree lighting celebration
  • 6:40 p.m. Horse and carriage rides, in exchange for a non-perishable food item or monetary donation, to benefit the Arlington Food Assistance Center. 
  • 7:00 p.m. photos with Santa (located at Hardwood Artisans+)

Visitors will also enjoy a live holiday music performance by Bishop O’Connell High School, free face painting and balloon twisting. There will also be strolling entertainment, along with merchant specials and promotions, according to organizers.

Plus, for smaller visitors looking to get on Santa's good side, photos with Father Christmas will end promptly at 8:30 p.m., so be sure to line up early to get a photo.
