CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Mob turns Seminary Road into a racetrack

The group took over the intersection late Friday night before police arrived

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Drivers turned a major intersection in Alexandria into their personal raceway. It happened Friday night at around 1 a.m., and now neighbors are speaking out about the dangerous roadway.

An eyewitness who lives near the Seminary Road/Beauregard Street intersection in Alexandria caught the crowd on video, blocking off the intersection as drivers in the center raced and spun around each other, turning the intersection into their own private arena.

Victoria Waskowicz lives a few blocks away and heard the car's exhaust systems.

"We live here, we see things every day," she said. "[I'm] surprised and not surprised, because we live a few blocks from that same area and while we cant see what's happening we can hear regularly."

The Reddit user, who asks to remain anonymous, said this went on for about 15 minutes, echoing for neighbors to hear.

There have been several crashes in the area this year alone. Waskowicz and her fellow neighbors formed the Seminary Road Committee and launched a survey to gather ideas to improve the stretch of roadway. In the past two months it's gained nearly 300 responses.

"We really want city staff to pay attention to this area, not just part of the Alexandria west overall planning but because of its extreme safety hazard specifically," said Waskowicz.

In this case, the Reddit witness said police eventually got there and shut this down. But their sirens scattered the crowd before they arrived. He said he wants to see cameras monitoring the intersection and more police presence.

Alexandria Police have not yet responded to our request for comment.
