RESTON, Va. — The Major Crimes Bureau has arrested a man for an overnight shooting that left three homes damaged.

On Tuesday, residents of Hattontown were awakened by the sound of gunshots. Fairfax County Police Department arrested 26-year-old Sangram Singh Grewal, in connection to the shooting.

The shooting happened a little after 11 p.m. on Ashnut Lane, when officers arrived they were met with angry and frightened homeowners.

Despite the extensive damage that was done, no injuries or deaths were reported from the shooting.

Following an investigation, law enforcement was led to the rear deck of one of the homes in the neighborhood where they found multiple cartridge cases. SWAT was immediately called to the home. They took Grewal into custody after serving him a search warrant.

During the search detectives discovered two firearms, magazines, and ammunition. Fearful that Grewal would be a threat to the public’s safety, the case has been handed over to Fairfax County, Threat Assessment Management Unit.

Grewal is now facing three counts of attempted malicious wounding, three counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and more.

Herndon resident Andrew Murphy said his home was hit by the gunfire. He told us he's just happy to be alive.

"Around 11 o'clock at night we started hearing what we thought was a loud bang, couple of bangs, which we thought were firecrackers. But then I realized it wasn't firecrackers the way that they went off. I knew it was gunfire," Murphy said.

As of now, detectives have not released Grewal’s motive behind the shooting or if the guns were obtained legally and registered.
