Traffic Alert: Marine Corps Marathon weekend road closures

To aid with the traffic, Metro has announced trains will be running at 5 a.m. to help runners get to and from the race.

VIRGINIA, USA — The 48th annual Marine Corps Marathon is returning on Sunday, October 29. There will be two additional races, the MCM10K and the MCM50K. 

The 10K marathon marathon is scheduled to begin at 7:50 a.m. at the National Mall, running through Pentagon City, and ending at the Arlington National Cemetery. 

The 50K marathon is the country’s largest ultramarathon. The race is scheduled to begin earlier than the 10K race at 7:15 a.m. As suspected this course is also longer. The path begins in Arlington and runs through Foxhall Crescent, Woodley Park, Foggy Bottom, the National Mall, Potomac Park, Pentagon City and ends at the Arlington National Cemetery.

To prepare for the race the city will be placing road closures throughout D.C. and Virginia. 

The following streets will be posted as Emergency No Parking from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m.:

  • 7th Street from Constitution Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
  • 14th Street from Constitution Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
  • M Street from Canal Road to Wisconsin Avenue, NW
  • Canal Road from Arizona Avenue to Foxhall Road, NW
  • Wisconsin Avenue from M Street to K Street, NW
  • K Street from 27th Street to Wisconsin Avenue, NW
  • Madison Drive from 3rd Street to 15th Street, NW
  • Jefferson Drive from 3rd Street to 15th Street, SW
  • Independence Avenue from 23rd Street to 12th Street, SW

The following streets will be closed to vehicle traffic from approximately 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.:

  • 7th Street from Constitution Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
  • 14th Street from Constitution Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
  • M Street from Canal Road to Wisconsin Avenue, NW
  • Canal Road from Arizona Avenue to Foxhall Road, NW
  • Wisconsin Avenue from M Street to K Street, NW
  • K Street from 27th Street to Wisconsin Avenue, NW
  • Madison Drive from 3rd Street to 15th Street, NW
  • Jefferson Drive from 3rd Street to 15th Street, SW
  • Independence Avenue from 23rd Street to 12th Street, SW
  • Rock Creek Parkway from Calvert Street to Ohio Drive, NW
  • 14th Street from Independence Avenue to the 14th Street Bridge, SW
  • HOV lanes of the 14th Street Bridge
  • Key Bridge
  • Memorial Bridge
