WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Police in Prince William County are still searching for a man they believe broke into a Woodbridge home and shot a man on Halloween.
Officers were called to the 13400 block of Orangewood Drive around 1:45 p.m. on Oct. 31 for a report of a shooting. When they got on scene, they found a 51-year-old man in his home, shot in the lower body. The responding officers provided first aid and the man was taken to the hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.
Master Police Officer Renee Carr said the initial investigation found that the 51-year-old man was in his home when he heard a loud noise by the front door. He went to check what the noise was, and found a stranger in a baseball cap, black mask and black hooded sweatshirt had smashed the glass screen door and was trying to force his way into the home.
The man in the home confronted the stranger, who pulled a gun. The two men struggled to get control of the gun and the homeowner was shot, Carr said. In the aftermath of the shooting, the man who was trying to force his way inside the home ran off. Investigators are still looking for him.
