ARLINGTON COUNTY, Va. — An Arlington couple says someone keeps tearing down their Pride flag.
"I want people to know this isn't okay we're here we're gonna put our flag up regardless," said Jenna Burnett and Michelle Logan.
The two met about two years ago.
"We had a blind date at Red Bear in D.C., and the very first thing she texted me she was like 'I have to turn around I'm wearing my house moccasins by accident' and I was like I love this girl," said Logan.
Both lived in Arlington at the time, but in August they decided to move in together.
"We put up a pride flag and were like oh yea we're so excited to be moving in together," said Logan.
But in the middle of the night on September 16, someone decided to tear that flag down.
"So we looked at the Ring camera and it was just like a male and his two friends and he was wearing a cowboy hat and we were like huh that's interesting so we put up another pride flag," the two explained.
They tell WUSA9 they reported it to Arlington County Police and put up a new flag.
They also posted the video from their Ring camera online, and say support started pouring in, and they received a bunch of replacement pride flags. They also say they received support from Kindness Activist.
On September 30, in the middle of the night, it happened again.
"We were like okay. We were like kind of angry. Our friend made us another flag with our pride flag that said 'Have you seen this anti-LGBTQ+ cowboy' and we thought it was hilarious so we put it up," said Logan and Burnett.
Then, on December 16, the "cowboy" struck again.
"The entire pole was just like snapped off. Like bent in half. We were like okay we can do something about this," said Logan.
"We've decided that every time he steals a flag we're gonna donate $100 to an LGBTQ+ organization just because we're gonna try to educate more," said Burnett.
They say they reported it to Arlington County Police. To the person they've deemed the "Anti-LGBTQ+ Cowboy," they had this to say.
"If he's just super hateful. I don't know I just think this is not the way to go about it. Everyone has different opinions and lifestyles and we're not going around stealing people's flags. So let us live our lives and don't violate our property".
