FAIRFAX, Va. — Fairfax County police are investigating after shots were fired on the grounds of a local school, in an incident that ultimately resulted in a man getting hit by a car.
Police said they went to Hutchison Elementary School in the Herndon area of the county around 4 p.m after a caller told them shots were being fired into the air at the school.
When they arrived, officers said they found a group of men behind the school. As they approached, one man ran from police through woods and then onto the Dulles Toll Road, where he was hit by a passing car.
The driver remained on the scene and the suspect was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police advised the public to avoid the area immediately following the incident.
