ARLINGTON, Va. — Police are investigating after a man was able to get into a woman's home before sexually assaulting her in Arlington early Wednesday morning.
According to the Arlington County Police Department, officers were called to a home in the 2200 block of Clarendon Boulevard just after 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12.
Detectives with the department's Special Victims Unit say a man was able to get into the home, walked into a bedroom and touched a woman inappropriately. The woman screamed and the suspect ran away.
Police describe the suspect as a man with an average build, standing between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10. He's wanted on charges of burglary and sexual battery.
Detectives believe the assault may be connected to an incident reported on April 2 in the Ballston-Virginia Square neighborhood.
Residents of the building are upset – not only because of the crime itself, but because they found out about it on social media and not the building's management.
A resident shared an email from Courthouse Plaza Apartments management that said, in part, "We can confirm that there was an attempted assault that took place early yesterday morning. There were no signs of forced entry.''
It wasn't just her immediate neighbors who were concerned.
"It's usually a very quiet neighborhood here and nothing really happens so I think we all should be concerned about it," said Alex Shwartz, who lives down the street.
Now police say they believe this sexual assault may be connected to one that happened on April 2 less than two miles from Courthouse Plaza Apartments on Fairfax Drive in the Ballston-Virginia Square neighborhood.
