FRANCONIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A barricade situation in Franconia that shut down a section of a busy road during the Wednesday evening rush hour stemmed from a family argument earlier in the day, Fairfax County police say.
Police were called to the home of Sayed Javid at around 9 a.m. to break up an argument that turned physical between Javid and his father over Javid's behavior, according to authorities.
Later in the day at around 4 p.m., police were again called to Javid's home in the 6200 block of Larkspur Drive after Javid allegedly called police to report there was an unknown person inside the home.
When officers arrived at the home, Javid appeared to fire gunshots at the officers, causing them to initiate a barricade situation. An investigation later found the weapon was a starter pistol that did not fire any actual bullets.
About two hours after police first arrived at the house, Javid allegedly exited the home armed with a pellet rifle and a pellet pistol. After Javid ignored commands to surrender, police say an officer fired a bean bag round at him.
An additional investigation found that during the entire situation no one else was in the home with Javid. Another pellet rifle was also found inside the home, police say.
Javid is being held with no bond at the Fairfax County Detention Center on charges of assault on a police officer and falsely summoning police. Javid's father was charged with assault on a police officer in connection to the earlier incident.
Franconia Road was closed between South Van Dorn Street and Beulah Street while police investigated the incident.
