Only 40 days to go until the 6 closed Blue and Yellow line Metro stations reopen

Here’s what construction crews have been working on since May 25.

In the months since six Blue and Yellow Metro stations south of Reagan National Airport closed for platform reconstruction and infrastructure improvements, there have been complaints, heat waves and very long bus rides for commuters.

According to our countdown, there are only 40 more days until the stops are slated to reopen and now we have a look from Metro of some of the improvements they’ve been working on.

Slip resistant tiles

They’ll have a textured surface for better traction during wet weather, but will look like the old tile.

More Signs

The renovated stations will have more of those big digital screens announcing how far away your next train is.

The signs will also have new speakers on them that Metro says will be clearer than the old ones for platform announcements.

New platform shelters

Crews are building new, stainless steel platform shelters with granite benches, digital displays for service alerts and emergency info and….wait for it…power outlets and USB ports.

LED lights

Old lighting is slated to be replaced at each station with brighter, energy efficient LED fixtures. Metro says the stations will be brighter but also cheaper to light and maintain.

The stations are slated to reopen Sept. 8. You can read more information about the closures here.
