ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Storm preps were well underway in Old Town, Alexandria Friday night.

As the rain came down, the water continued to rise from the Potomac River up onto the walkways and into the roadways near King Street.

By 8:30 p.m. on Friday, the flooding started to spread up to North Union Street.

Around 8:45 p.m. on Friday, the Alexandria Police Department blocked off Prince Street at the intersection of North Union Street as water filled the roadway.

People who had parked along the waterfront quickly began trying to move their cars as the water started to make its way up Prince and King Streets.

"As long as I put the sandbags down we're good," said Stuart Robinson, the general manager of Misha's Coffee on Prince Street

He told WUSA9 they lucked out during Tuesday night's storm, which caused major flooding in Old Town.

"It actually didn't damage anything in the store very very minimal. But, we did have to mop up a lot in the morning," said Robinson.

"Preventative measures, sandbags to create a pathway for the water to flow. We know what to do now," said Flannery McGale who was helping Robinson put down sandbags.

Next door, at Big Wheel Bikes on Prince Street, Diego Moore told WUSA9 they're pretty used to flooding.

"We're used to it in the sense that all we have to do is add sandbags to the front of each door," said Moore.
